Dağlar is an EP consisting of two Compositions. They were based on the field recordings made in several Israeli cities and in the area near the Palestinian border. I also used media archaeology techniques, cutting audio from various footages scattered around the net. In both Compositions I played with the contrast of extreme aggression and ghostly everyday life, and constructed the composition in such a way as to evoke reflections on the inequalities of war and its representation in the media + peace in its impermanence and changeability.
In Composition I I mix the speech of the warring Armenians and Azerbaijanis with the voice of the singer Shovket Elekberova, singing about the mountains (Azerbaijani: dağlar), which became the contrapunct of the whole work. Composition II is more tranquil, its spatial character is characterized by more coherence, but not by a smaller number of voices (Ableton tracks), which indicates the complexity of mechanisms through which peace finds itself. It ends with the sounds of the Jewish harp kinnor and the Arabic instrument qanun. One instrument blends with the other. In doing so, both sounds deforming by a phase distortion. The DAW allows the pre-recorded sounds to be used in a philosophical way, opening up space for a long and heavy reflection on the limits of the Human, the information distortion, the polyphony of symbols and meanings.
